Coventry City 1-1 LCFC Women
This local derby and a clash of the leaders, both with 100% records, on a fine playing surface but with a strong wind that Leicester faced in the 1st half.
The game started strong and fierce with no quarters given. A chance for Coventry with an inswinging corner hit the Leicester near post, sending the ball into the box but Rachel Williams made a great tackle to clear the danger.
Leicester got their game together with Williams and Remi Allen putting Zira Handley through on the right on three occasions as she out paced the full back each time but fired wide twice and their keeper saving well.
Leicester then conceded an un-necessary free-kick by Leah Rawle just outside the box . the ball was floated into the box, Leicester's keeper, Sophie Le Gros made an effort to palm out the ball, it fell to a Coventry player who duly obliged to put them one up.
Leicester replied with a fine move, with Natasha Meade and Allen , which resulted in a corner. Rawle floated the ball into the path of Allen who fired over.
The second period the Leicester players came out in a determined fashion with the wind behind them, they upped the tempo with crisp passing along with surging runs by Williams & Allen.
Leicester introduced Courtney Sweetman-Kirk and added zest to Leicester's play with Meade going wide left and instantly Leicester equalised with Meade playing the ball down the wing to Rawle whose cross was headed out but the ball fell to the inspirational Allen who fired home from 25 yards.
It was all Leicester now and they were the stronger side but the Coventry keeper kept them in the game and Leicester had to be content with the points shared. Lauren Impey was outstanding for Leicester. They are learning fast in this division.
