LCFC Women 6-0 Alfreton Town
On a dark and dismal day City got back into League action after last week's cup heights and played some neat football on a slippery surface.
After a scrappy opening the Foxes opened their account, when Rachel Williams spread the ball out to winger Zira Handley who beat her full back, and crossed a tantalising ball into the Town area, skipper Remi Allen's shot was blocked but the ball fell nicely for forward Natasha Meade who coolly stroked it home.
City went forward again, this time Williams took on the Town defenders and hit a fine shot that hit the woodwork and bounced clear. Town broke and an effort was just fired over. The Foxes midfield of Hannah Barrett and Allen were passing neatly and pulling the strings breaking up any forward attacks from Alfreton.
Right on half time City were awarded a direct free-kick and full back Leah Rawle curled the ball in but it was cleared back to her, her second shot from 20 yards out went in the top corner a great effort.
Straight after the restart the Foxes increased their lead, this time Courtney Sweetman-Kirk put Allen through and she smartly rounded the Town keeper, Hayley Lonagan, to slot home.
City were having a purple patch, Sweetman-Kirk threaded the ball through to winger, Helen Shipman, who neatly finished and had made an instant impression on the game.
City's fifth was great inter-play by Allen and Meade who set up the new addition to the side American Kara Frederick who finished with calmness to gain her first goal on her league debut.
Only good goalkeeping by Town's Lonagan and stout defending were keeping City at bay. Two successive corners by the tenacious Allen found Handley with two powerful headers, one hitting the woodwork.
In the final minutes Shipman notched her second and City's sixth to round off a good day for the Foxes and another clean sheet for keeper Laura Niblett.
