Walsall 0-1 Leicester City

A goal at the death from Andy King secured a 1-0 victory for City reserves over Walsall at the Bescott Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.

The game looked to be heading for a stalemate before the youngster picked up a loose clearance and hammered the ball home with just two minutes remaining.

Reserve team coach Gerry Taggart named a number of first team squad members in his starting line up - including Gabor Bori, James Wesolowski, Radi Kishishev and former Saddler Matty Fryatt.

City came close to opening the scoring as early as the fourth minute of the contest. Hungarian international Bori fired in a shot from the edge of the area, but his effort was cleared off the line.

Troy Deeney had a chance for the home side nine minutes later, but his shot was well held by Henderson in the Leicester goal.

City left-back Ryan Beswick almost capitalised on a defensive mix up moments later, but his effort was saved.

Fryatt had his first sight on goal on 16 minutes, but his drive failed to trouble Saddlers stopper Bertrand Bossu.

The home side were awarded a penalty on the half-hour mark - but Henderson was on hand to pull off a fine save to deny Ishmel Demotagnac from the spot.

It was Bossu's turn to produce some goalkeeping heroics in the 36th minute - making a fantastic double save to deny both Andy King and Fryatt.

Substitute Luke O'Neill almost put the ball past his own 'keeper a minute later - but the post came to his saviour.

Fryatt rattled the post a minute before the break before Hayles bundled in the rebound only to see it chalked off for an alleged handball.

Fryatt came close again from range on 58 minutes, but his well struck effort was palmed away by Bossu.

Hayles beat the Walsall keeper with 64 minutes on the clock, but his shot rebounded off the bar.

Fryatt weaved his way through on 70 minutes before seeing his shot acrobatically cleared off the line, and moments later Hayles forced another good save from Bossu.

King finally broke the deadlock in the 88th minutes - making it back-to-back wins for the reserve side following their recent victory over Wolves.

Fryatt almost doubled City's advantage in added time, but his header drifted just wide of the target.
