First half goals from Ryan Beswick and Ricky Sappleton were enough for Leicester City's Academy side to see off West Ham at the Belvoir Drive training ground on Saturday.

The Foxes were unlucky not to be ahead shortly after kick-off - Sappleton found a way behind the Hammers defence but his shot was smothered by the goalkeeper.

Lee Cox was next to try his luck but his effort blazed over the bar after Robbie Burns had picked out the midfielder on the edge of the box.

But City took the lead on 15 minutes when Craig King escaped the offside trap and crossed for Beswick who found the net at the second attempt.

Sappleton doubled Leicester's advantage five minutes before the break when he latched on to a through ball by Burns and slotted the ball home.

The Foxes were rarely threatened and almost extended their lead on the hour when a corner fell to Lathanial Rowe-Turner but his shot failed to hit the target.

Leicester City's academy side return to action next weekend when Fulham are the visitors at Belvoir Drive (11am).
