Hat-tricks from Ashley Chambers and Ricky Sappleton helped guide Leicester City's reserve team to an 8-1 victory against Oldham Athletic in the Pontin's Central League on Wednesday evening.

Billy McKay and Ryan Beswick also found the net as City's young side ran riot at the Marston's Stadium.

The Foxes could have been ahead inside the first minute but Radostin Kishishev could not direct his header on target after connecting with Joe Magunda's long throw.

Kishishev turned provider five minutes later as his long ball found McKay at the far post who could only drag his shot across the face of goal.

But City didn't have to wait long and went ahead in the 10th minute - Chambers finishing from close range after a neat move between McKay and Sappleton.

Chambers doubled his tally in the 21st minute when the visitors failed to clear a Beswick cross leaving the striker with time to find the top corner of the net.

Sappleton found space on the edge of the box in the 36th minute to fire a daisy-cutter past goalkeeper Josh Bell and give the Foxes a three-goal advantage at the break.

But it was Oldham who struck next as Ross Thaker netted from the penalty spot after Lathanial Rowe-Turner was adjudged to have handled inside the area.

McKay should have restored City's three-goal advantage in the 52nd minute but his close-range volley flew over the bar before Sappleton grabbed his second with an unstoppable drive from twenty yards.

Robbie Burns' perfectly weighted pass in the 76th minute found Chambers who was able to escape Oldham's offside trap and complete his hat-trick.

McKay grabbed his second assist of the game three minutes later setting up Beswick before the striker latched on to a Chambers cross to include his name on the scoresheet.

Sappleton added to the visitor's misery by completing his hat-trick in the 85th minute to round off a convincing victory.

Leicester City's reserve team return to action on Monday when they travel to Huddersfield Town.
