Filbert And Birch Go Back To Nursery
Filbert Fox and Leicester legend Alan Birchenall spent the morning kicking a ball around with children from Wingfield Nursery today (Monday).
The session was organised by The Foxes in support of the Department for Children, Schools and Families 'Working in Early Years It's not just child's play' recruitment campaign, which aims to encourage more people, particularly men, to consider a career in Early Years and Childcare.
Filbert Fox and the Birch together with some of the club's young football coaches spent the morning playing football with the children and encouraging them to take part in a range of sport orientated games and activities.
Alan said, "As a Dad I know how important it is to be a good male role model for my children and I've really enjoyed playing football with the kids this morning.
"It's hard work but must be incredibly rewarding playing such an important role in shaping children's futures. If you want to make a difference and contribute to society, I can't imagine anything more worthwhile than working with young children."
Lee Gill, Senior Nursery Nurse at Hungerford Nursery School said: "The children had a fantastic time at the stadium today and really enjoyed playing with Filbert Fox, Alan and the young coaches for the morning.
"It is so important for children to have positive male role models at this stage in their development and sport is a great way of encouraging this. I started working in Early Years eight years ago because I get on well with children and thought I could be a positive role model for them, especially as many do not have a strong male influence at home.
"The best thing about my job is the satisfaction of helping the children to develop and learn - I have been privileged to experience the first words and first steps of many of the children I work with, and feel a real sense of achievement as I know I have given them a good start in life."
