The Birch has issued a heartfelt thank you to everyone who helped him complete his 28th annual run around the Walkers Stadium pitch prior to kick-off on Saturday.

The sun shone once again as City's Ambassador completed 50 laps in aid of Leicestershire prostate cancer charity, PROSTaid.

He was joined by the likes of Muzzy Izzet, Steve Walsh, Gerry Taggart, and David Neilson, who plays Roy Cropper in Coronation Street.

"It was another red hot day and it was hard," Birch admitted. "I could organise my run in December and I'm sure the sun would still shine!"

Over the years, he has raised nearly £700,000 for various charities and has once again thanked the army of volunteers, staff members and fans who helped him in the lead up to and on the day of the charity run.

"I couldn't have done it without other people's efforts and I am truly grateful.

"As always the City fans got me around the last half-hour and I managed to complete my target of 50 laps.

"I crawled over the line. I don't know exactly how much was collected yet but I'm sure it will at least be in the five figures.

"The crowd were great despite the disappointing result."

City and Wednesday supporters donated an amazing £10,738 on the day - a record cash total.

Donations are still being welcomed. Send cheques payable to LCFC Charity Account to Alan Birchenall at either the Stadium or Training ground.
