Two goals in the final seven minutes condemned Leicester City to a 2-0 defeat at West Brom on Saturday afternoon.
Some heroics in each half from goalkeeper Paul Henderson looked to have secured the Foxes a welcome point when he saved brilliantly from John Hartson and Kevin Phillips.
But a bizarre own goal from Darren Kenton and then a Phillips penalty a minute later made sure it was an unhappy return for former Baggie Andy Johnson.
City did ride their luck at times with Darren Carter twice hitting the woodwork for the home side while Matty Fryatt and Chris O'Grady carved out opportunities at the other end.
But as the game seemed to be drifting towards a draw, Albion's late, late show made sure it was their fans who went home happy.
O'Grady headed Kenton's long throw-in over the bar inside two minutes before fellow strike partner Fryatt was just adjudged offside on eight minutes after breaking free of the hosts' defence for the first time.
The visitors were handed a huge let-off a minute later when Carter's curling free-kick from 25-yards out ricocheted back off the inside of the post, with Henderson beaten, before Stephen Hughes hacked the ball clear for a corner.
At the other end, Josh Low's cross from the left almost found the head of Johnson before O'Grady's cross-cum-shot eluded the advancing Fryatt.
Henderson had to be alert on 17 minutes when he got down well to his right to save from Kevin Phillips' low shot on the turn after good work down the flank by Carter on his first league start.
Paul Robinson blocked Low's cross for a corner, before the former Northampton winger then sent his effort over the bar from distance.
Fryatt returned the compliment on the half-hour when he freed O'Grady, but after cutting inside Chris Perry and Paul McShane, his shot lacked any real power and Pascal Zuberbuhler saved comfortably.
A stretching Low nearly met Fryatt's cross from the right in the 31st minute, but the ball just ran away from him inside the six-yard box.
Henderson was again called into action five minutes later when he brilliantly palmed away John Hartson's close range header from Jonathan Greening's corner from the right.
Zuberbuhler raced off his line to save at the feet of Hughes in first-half stoppage time but the two teams could not be separated at the break as the game remained goalless.
City were first to show after the interval when Fryatt put his 18-yard effort over the bar.
However, West Brom hit back on 51 minutes when Nigel Quashie found Carter at the back post.
His shot was misdirected but fell at the feet of Phillips, but he was unable to apply the finishing touch and the danger was cleared.
At the other end, O'Grady managed to get the wrong side of McShane but he put his shot over the bar.
Henderson beat Hartson to the ball in the 58th minute with the former Celtic striker clean through on goal before Phillips drove his effort wide of the mark on the hour.
Rob Kelly made his first change soon after with Richard Stearman replacing Low in a straight-swap.
O'Grady opened up the Baggies defence on 62 minutes but his shot failed to trouble the hosts' keeper with the ball flying out for a goal-kick.
Carter was again thwarted by the woodwork two minutes later when his long range dipping effort rattled back off the bar with Henderson back-peddling before Kenton headed away the danger.
Iain Hume came on for Fryatt on 66 minutes and he was immediately in the thick of the action when he was brought down by McShane, which warranted a first yellow card of the afternoon.
Bryan Robson made a double change in the 69th minute with the returning Jason Koumas coming on for Greening and Nathan Ellington replacing Hartson.
Hume and O'Grady combined well at the other end but the latter's deep cross from the right failed to find a City man at the far post.
Henderson again kept the Foxes in the contest on 74 minutes when he saved excellently from Phillips.
Quashie freed the ex-Aston Villa man through the middle but Henderson stood up well and blocked his goalbound shot.
James Wesolowski replaced Levi Porter in the 78th minute before Henderson saved from Carter nine minutes from time.
However, the home side took the lead on 83 minutes when Kenton somehow headed the ball into his own net from Quashie's cross.
Phillips then doubled his side's lead a minute later when he fired home his first goal in a Baggies shirt from the spot after he had been tripped in the area by Patrick Kisnorbo.
Richard Chaplow then came on for Quashie for the remaining few minutes of the contest but City could not work their way back into the contest and returned home pointless.
