Leicester City mathematically made sure of their Championship status for another season with a hard-earned 1-0 victory over Barnsley at Oakwell on Saturday afternoon.
In a tentative affair, Neil Austin's second half own goal after good work by Matty Fryatt handed the visitors their second successive victory under caretaker manager Nigel Worthington.
Iain Hume, Gareth McAuley, substitute Danny Cadamarteri and Shaun Newton also came close while at the other end Conrad Logan made several important saves to ensure another clean sheet.
But one goal proved enough much to the delight of the Blue Army.
Fryatt was adjudged offside on five minutes after being played in by Shaun Newton before strike partner Hume followed suit four minutes later.
Daniel Nardiello shot straight at Conrad Logan in the 13th minute then the hosts had hopeful appeals for a penalty turned down on 19 minutes.
At the other end, Nils-Eric Johansson had his header saved by Nick Colgan from Newton's corner.
Logan saved well at the feet of Nardiello moments later while Gareth McAuley headed narrowly over from another Newton corner on 25 minutes.
City came close to breaking the deadlock a minute later when Iain Hume met Newton's free-kick, but his glancing header flew inches wide with Colgan beaten.
Paul Heckingbottom shot wide under pressure from McAuley on the half-hour mark.
Following some good build-up play involving Joe Mattock, Fryatt and Richard Stearman, Newton volleyed wide from the edge of the area in the 35th minute before Colgan saved from Hume's dipping effort on 41 minutes.
Fryatt was marginally flagged offside in first-half stoppage time and after some late Barnsley pressure, it remained goalless at the interval.
Colgan saved from Fryatt at the start of the second half but it was the visitors who took the lead on 49 minutes.
Stearman's ball forward eluded the Barnsley defence leaving Fryatt clean through on goal.
The striker lobbed the ball over the advancing Colgan and with the goal gaping, Neil Austin, in an attempt to head the ball clear under pressure, inadvertently found the corner of the net for a Foxes opener.
Logan got down well to save from Brian Howard and then Nardiello as the game exploded into life before Istvan Ferenczi headed over on 56 minutes.
Howard headed narrowly wide from Kyle Reid's cross three minutes later then Logan bravely smothered the ball at Howard's feet.
The visitors made their first change on 65 minutes when Fryatt made way for Danny Cadamarteri.
Both Hume and Cadamarteri just failed to connect with Mattock's teasing drive across the face of goal on 70 minutes.
On 73 minutes Peter Rajczi replaced Kyel Reid then Martin Devaney fired wide from 20-yards.
Antony Kay almost headed into his own net in the 76th minute before Cadamarteri had his goalbound effort saved on the line by Colgan.
City almost killed the game as a contest on 88 minutes but Colgan brilliantly saved Newton's low effort.
Kay was booked for a foul on Hughes a minute later.
But that was to be the last meaningful action of the game as the visitors went home happy with their Championship status in tact.
