Two goals in three second half minutes together with first goals of the season for Iain Hume and Mark de Vries helped Leicester City put Watford to the sword at the Walkers Stadium on Saturday and in the process register their first Championship win of the season.

DJ Campbell's second in as many starts and Alan Sheehan's first senior goal capped an impressive second half performance for the Foxes who could have won even more emphatically despite Marlon King's consolation penalty deep into stoppage time.

Stephen Clemence struck the bar and Campbell also hit the post while de Vries and James Wesolowski also came close as City overpowered their opponents after the interval.

It was one-way traffic and Martin Allen's men more than deserved the three points.

The visitors almost opened the scoring after 20 seconds when Marton Fulop could only palm Steve Kabba's hanging cross from the right into the path of Jobi McAnuff.

But the midfielder's shot lacked direction and his effort went wide of the left-hand post.

A timely tackle from Gareth McAuley on four minutes thwarted Marlon King before Clive Clarke did likewise to deny Kabba three minutes later.

De Vries shot wide in the 10th minute while at the other end Dan Shittu headed just over from Lee Wiliamson's free-kick on the right-flank four minutes later.

However, Hume's first of the season on 15 minutes handed the hosts an early advantage.

The Canadian international, playing on the right side of midfield, picked up the ball on the edge of the box and from 25-yards found the top corner off the underside of the bar for the opener.

Mart Poom got down well at his near post to save Sheehan's free-kick on 28 minutes after Wesolowski had been scythed down by Gavin Mahon 18-yards out.

De Vries was crowded out in the 36th minute before Mahon was booked a minute later for a foul on Sheehan.

Campbell was the first Foxes player to be cautioned on 42 minutes for persistent fouling according to referee Anthony Taylor.

King and McAuley both saw yellow in first-half stoppage time but the Foxes stood firm to go into the break a goal to the good.

A good break by Wesolowski needed a last ditch block from Jay DeMerit at the start of the second half before the hosts hit the wood work twice in as many minutes.

Firstly, captain Clemence rattled the bar from distance with Poom beaten before Campbell was released by Wesolowski through the middle, but the striker's shot bounced back off the left hand upright and the danger was cleared.

However, the Foxes did double their advantage on 51 minutes.

Sheehan's free-kick from 25-yards was blocked, but the loose ball fell kindly to Campbell who slotted the ball into an empty net for his side's second of the afternoon.

It got even better for City three minutes later when Sheehan's deflected effort wrong-footed Poom and spun into the net for number three, sparking the wild celebrations amongst the Blue Army.

Clemence and Kabba picked up yellow cards on 57 minutes before Shittu saw his header from former Fox Jordan Stewart's corner cleared off the line by Clarke.

De Vries was crowded out by Shittu and DeMerit moments later then goalscorer Campbell made way for James Chambers on 62 minutes.

At the other end, King shot narrowly over the bar after cutting inside Clarke.

Poom gathered at the second attempt from Sheehan's long range piledriver in the 64th minute.

De Vries came close a minute later before Tamas Priskin replaced Kabbaon on 68 minutes.

Shittu tried his luck from distance while Hume's overhead kick went just over Poom's crossbar in the 71st minute.

Priskin had a goal ruled out for offside on 73 minutes then Chambers was cautioned in the 75th minute.

Hossein Kaebi made his City debut in the 79th minute, replacing Hume for the final 11 minutes before Will Hoskins came on for DeMerit on 82 minutes.

De Vries rounded off an impressive performance in the 84th minute when he jinked inside two defenders before curling the ball round Poom for number four.

Sheehan made way for Radostin Kishishev a minute later while Alhassan Bangura replaced McAnuff in the dying moments.

King netted from the spot in stoppage time after an apparent handball but City's job had been done and the partisan crowd returned home more than happy.
