Frank Burrows' reign as caretaker manager of Leicester City got off to a perfect start as the Foxes ran out 2-0 winners over Barnsley on Saturday afternoon.
Burrows and assistant Gerry Taggart had been handed the reigns following the departure of Gary Megson on Wednesday evening.
And the duo saw their side register their third league win of the campaign in front of 24,133 vocal supporters at the Walkers Stadium.
Burrows made three changes to the side that went down to Sheffield United in midweek - with Iain Hume, Shaun Newton and new signing Collins John coming in for Stephen Clemence, DJ Campbell and James Chambers.
The Tykes had the first real chance of the game in the 13th minute. Martin Devaney whipped in a good ball from the right, but captain Brian Howard was unable to direct his header on target.
City took the lead with 22 minutes on the clock. Newton delivered a dangerous free-kick from the left, and John was able to scramble the ball home from close range to register his first goal for the club.
The Foxes doubled their advantage seven minutes later. Alan Sheehan whipped in a corner from the right, and Patrick Kisnorbo was on hand to fire home a trademark header from the edge of the Barnsley six-yard box.
And City almost made it three moments later - but John's header from a Newton cross fell wide.
Barnsley came close to grabbing a goal back on 36 minutes. Kayode Odejayi forced a good save from Marton Fulop with a long-range effort - and Stephen Foster saw his shot from the rebound brilliant blocked by Kisnorbo.
City were forced to make a change just before the break - James Chambers replacing the injured James Wesolowski.
Leicester continued to dominate the game at the start of the second half, and they were not far away from increasing their lead in the 58th minute. Richard Stearman whipped in a good ball from the right, but Matty Fryatt's header fell wide of the target.
Carl Cort was brought into the action in the 73rd minute - replacing goalscorer John.
Stearman had a speculative effort from distance in the 75th minute, but his half-volley failed to trouble Heinz Meller in the Barnsley goal.
With the game coming to a close striker Fryatt tried his luck with a curling shot from the right, but the effort fell wide of Muller's right-hand upright.
City now travel to Stamford Bridge to take on Chelsea, who were 6-0 victors over Manchester City on the day, in the fourth round of the Carling Cup on Wednesday evening.
