Matty Fryatt's second goal inside a week secured Leicester City a 1-1 draw against Stoke City at the Walkers Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The striker, who scored the winner at Villa Park on Wednesday, came off the bench at the break along with Iain Hume to revitalise the Foxes and ensure his side a share of the spoils after a disappointing first-half.

Gareth McAuley, Richard Stearman and Stephen Clemence also came close after the interval but despite a much improved second 45 minutes, the hosts could not conjure up a winner after Ricardo Fuller's early opener.

It was the visitors who almost took an early lead inside two minutes when former Fox Richard Cresswell turned Stephen Wright's low drive narrowly wide much to manager Tony Pulis' disgruntlement.

Cresswell then figured at the other end on seven minutes when he just managed to divert Mark de Vries' cross away from the advancing Carl Cort.

Steve Simonsen then gathered DJ Campbell's impressive overhead kick from Cort's flick on nine minutes before the Stoke shotstopper was again on hand to collect the ex-Birmingham man's header soon after.

However, it was the visitors who opened the scoring on 15 minutes.

Ricardo Fuller twisted and turned on the edge of the area before seeing his deflected shot off Liam Lawrence wrong-foot Marton Fulop and hit the back of the net for the opener.

Rory Delap tried his luck from his distance three minutes later but his effort went high and wide.

The Foxes came close to equalising in the 19th minute when a well-worked free-kick from captain Stephen Clemence was headed goalwards by Gareth McAuley at the back post but with Cort ready to pounce, Simonsen got down well to halt the attack.

Cresswell was booked for a foul on Richard Stearman on 29 minutes before the injured Delap made way for John Eustace two minutes later.

Fulop saved comfortably from Lawrence's looping header in the 36th minute while at the other end, Simonsen tipped McAuley's goal-bound header over the bar for a corner a minute later.

Fuller was cautioned two minutes before the break for another foul on Stearman.

On the stroke of half-time, Joe Mattock saw his free-kick from 20-yards strike team-mate Campbell before James Chambers saw yellow for a foul on Andy Wilkinson.

Fulop saved at goalscorer Fuller's feet in injury-time but it remained 1-0 to the visitors at the interval.

After a disappointing first half, Gary Megson made a double change at the start of the second half with Matty Fryatt and Iain Hume replacing Campbell and De Vries.

And it paid immediate dividends when Fryatt equalised in the 47th minute.

Hume fed Chambers, who in turn picked out the former Wallsall man. He jinked inside Gabriel Zakuani on the left hand edge of the area before curling the ball round Simonsen for the leveller much to the partisan's crowd delight.

On 52 minutes Hume volleyed over after McAuley won Stearman's long throw.

A last-gasp challenge from Kisnorbo thwarted Fuller moments later before Fryatt put his shot over the bar on the hour.

Fryatt volleyed wide from Stearman's hanging centre on 70 minutes then Radostin Kishishev replaced Cort in the 72nd minute.

Simosen parried Stearman's shot on 75 minutes with Fryatt just unable to apply the finishing touch before Wilkinson was booked for a foul on Hume.

McAuley was booked for a foul on Fuller on 81 minutes then Clemence let fly from 20-yards but his shot went wide.

Lawrence fired well over in stoppage time and the game ended 1-1.
