Leicester City recorded their first away league triumph of the campaign with a convincing 2-0 victory over Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough on Saturday afternoon.

Two goals in seven first-half minutes - captain Gareth McAuley's first of the season and an own goal by Akpo Sodje - did the damage while Patrick Kisnorbo , Shaun Newton and James Chambers also created chances.

At the other end, the defensive three of Kisnorbo, McAuley and N'Gotty, backed up by Marton Fulop, were again outstanding, making it just one goal conceded in their last four outings.

Inside three minutes, Deon Burton almost capitalised on an under-hit back pass from Bruno N'Gotty.

But as Fulop attempted to clear his lines, the ball ricocheted back off the striker and flew out harmlessly for a goal-kick.

However, it was the Foxes who went a goal up on seven minutes through McAuley.

Alan Sheehan's in-swinging corner found the Northern Ireland international defender at the back post and he made no mistake from only yards out for a welcome opener.

Sheehan was booked for a foul on Richard Hinds in the eighth minute.

The Owls almost scored an immediate reply but after Graham Kavanagh's shot had been blocked, Burton put his follow-up effort well wide of the target from close range.

The visitors then doubled their advantage on 14 minutes.

Another Sheehan corner caused confusion in the Owls penalty area and Lee Grant saw his attempted punch bounce back off Sodje and into a vacant net much to the visitors' delight.

It was all City at this point and Lee Bullen sliced his clearance over his own bar after Iain Hume's finely executed overhead kick on 18 minutes.

Shaun Newton was only denied by the assistant referee's flag in the 24th minute before Matty Fryatt came close five minutes later after cutting inside former Fox Peter Gilbert.

The Foxes were continuing to cause the home side trouble down both flanks with Sheehan and Richard Stearman seeing plenty of the ball.

In a tactical switch, Michael Johnson made way for Mark Beevers on 38 minutes before a last ditch Kisnorbo block thwarted Bullen a minute later.

City nearly made it 3-0 in first-half stoppage time when Newton picked out the on-rushing James Chambers with an inch-perfect pass from inside his own half.

But after bringing the pass under control, the midfield man saw his shot from eight-yards blocked before Andy King's follow-up shot lacked power and Grant gathered comfortably.

That was the last action of the first-half as the Foxes went into half-time two goals to the good.

Burton's snap-shot found the side-netting in the 48th minute then at the other end, Newton's free-flowing run was only halted by Beevers.

Five minutes later, Marcus Tudgay put his shot well over the bar from 20-yards before a last-gasp tackle from Beevers denied Newton when clean through on 56 minutes.

City made a double change in the 61st minute with Fryatt and Hume making way for Carl Cort and DJ Campbell respectively.

Two minutes later the Owls did likewise with Francis Jeffers and Burton O'Brien replacing Burton and Sodje.

Glenn Whelan shot well wide in the 70th minute before King made way for Darren Kenton on 74 minutes.

Newton volleyed over from yards out a minute later then Fulop, a spectator for the majority of the match, preserved City's two-goal lead on 77 minutes with a world-class reaction save from O'Brien.

Kisnorbo headed over from Newton's free-kick in the 80th minute before Sheehan curled a free-kick wide and Campbell put agonisingly over six minutes from time.
Hinds headed wide late on then Kavanagh did likewise in stoppage time.

Fulop brilliantly saved from Tudgay to keep his clean sheet and the City players were quick to celebrate with the Blue Army at the final whistle.
