Iain Hume's ninth goal of the season a minute from time rescued a point for Leicester City against relegated Colchester United at the Walkers Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The diminutive striker's last gasp effort cancelled out Kevin Lisbie's shock 75th minute header, but try as they might the Foxes could not net that all-important second goal.
City dominated the encounter against the U's with DJ Campbell, Steve Howard, Barry Hayles, Richard Stearman and Matty Fryatt all coming close but they could just not find the back of the net.
Therefore after the visitors' unlikely opener, it was left to Hume to secure his side a point in the dying moments much to the relief of the partisan crowd.
The hosts started brightly with Lee Hendrie firing over the bar inside two minutes after latching on to the returning Barry Hayles' neat lay-off on the edge of the area.
Hayles himself then saw his shot charged down by former Fox Matt Heath in the sixth minute.
The Foxes up the anti and Dean Gerken had to be alert to scoop Steve Howard's header behind for a corner on 12 minutes before DJ Campbell's low cross from the right just needed a touch, but the U's defence managed to avert the danger.
Gerken was again called into action a minute later when he raced off his line to block Campbell's goal-bound effort after the striker had been exquisitely played in by Matt Oakley.
Heath almost headed into his own net from Howard's driven cross on 18 minutes before Campbell almost tucked the ball home from the resulting corner.
City continued to pile on the pressure as they launched attack after attack with Patrick Kisnorbo's overhead-kick flying narrowly wide of the target in the 26th minute.
A neat one-two between Richard Stearman and Howard resulted in the right-back shooting straight at Gerken.
At the other end, Dean Hammond came close but the referee's assistant had already raised his flag for offside.
Heath was booked for a foul on Howard on 30 minutes before Henderson had to hurry his clearance six minutes later after Bruno N'Gotty had only half stopped Medy Elito's low cross.
Hayles' cross from the left was cut out by a diving Gerken with Campbell lurking in the 43rd minute as it remained goalless at half-time.
Chris Coyne cleared Oakley's cross on 48 minutes then Gerken gathered Stearman's centre at his near post.
Hayles had a goal disallowed for offside in the 54th minute then Howard saw his shot saved by Gerken on the hour.
The visitors made a change on 63 minutes with Scott Vernon making way for Clive Platt.
Henderson tipped Kevin Lisbie's shot over the bar in the 67th minute before the Foxes made a double change on 69 minutes.
Iain Hume and Matty Fryatt replaced Hayles and Howard respectively.
United made then made their second change with Kem Izzet coming on for Elito in the 72nd minute.
Campbell saw his shot blocked for a corner minutes later.
However, the visitors took a shock lead on 75 minutes when a long ball forward was headed into the net by Lisbie from close range for the opener, stunning the partisan crowd.
Hendrie was booked for a foul on Hammond in the 81st minute before Stearman headed over after Fryatt's shot had only been parried by Gerken.
Gareth McAuley replaced N'Gotty for the final five minutes then Fryatt's shot was deflected wide a minute later as the hosts threw everything at their opponents.
It was then the turn of Campbell to fire over in the dying moments but the Foxes drew level in the 89th minute when Hume beat the offside trap to head home Stearman's cross past Gerken for a welcome leveller.
The Us made another change in stoppage time with Jamie Guy coming on for Lisbie but despite throwing everything including the kitchen sink at their opponents, the Foxes had to settle for a share of the spoils at the final whistle.
