Ian Holloway's former employer's came back to haunt him and his Leicester City team as Plymouth Argyle came away from the Walkers Stadium with a 1-0 victory.

Peter Halmosi's 34th minute strike condemned the Foxes to their second successive defeat and at the same time secured his side's first ever win in the City.

The hosts tried desperately to get back in to the contest with Steve Howard, Stephen Clemence and substitute Matty Fryatt testing Luke McCormick.

But the Pilgrim's defence stood firm to register a gritty triumph in front of the Sky cameras.

Matt Oakley had the ball in the visitors net inside the opening three minutes but the goal was ruled out for offside.

Oakley was again in the thick of the action a minute later when he drove narrowly wide from the right hand angle after latching on to Steve Howard's flick.

The Foxes came close on nine minutes when Howard's looping effort from Gareth McAuley's header was tipped over the bar by McCormick for a corner.

It was then Barry Hayles' turn to head just over the Pilgrims bar from club captain Stephen Clemence's hanging right-wing cross.

At the other end, Ben Alnwick was quick off his line to deny Jermaine Easter then Hungarian Halmosi shot narrowly wide in the 18th minute.

The visitors continued to push forward and it was then the turn of recent signing Steve MacLean to fire inches past the right-hand upright.

Howard could put the home side a goal up on 27 minutes but he just failed to get a clean connection on Oakley's near-post cross.

The former Derby man was cautioned for a foul on Paul Connolly in the 30th minute and it was the visitors who opened the scoring on 34 minutes.

After a free-kick into the area was not properly cleared, former Fox Lilian Nalis' ball found Halmosi inside the area and the winger made no mistake, driving home past a helpless Alnwick for the opener.

City almost equalised in the 39th minute when McCormick palmed Clemence's side-footed effort over the bar after Iain Hume had laid the ball back to him from the by-line.

Halmosi found the side-netting in first-half stoppage time as it remained 1-0 to Paul Sturrock's men at the interval.

The Foxes made a change for the start of the second period with DJ Campbell replacing Gabor Bori.

Howard headed straight in to the arms of McCormick in the 48th minute then the frontman found the top of the net from Clemence's corner on 54 minutes.

Alnwick did well to gather Patrick Kisnorbo's deflection moments later before Campbell dragged his effort wide in the 56th minute.

James Chambers headed behind with Jim Paterson in close attendance on the hour before Hayles made way for Zsolt Laczko on 64 minutes as City looked for some fresh impetus.

The Hungarian winger was immediately in the thick of the action and headed narrowly wide from Hume's cross in the 67th minute.

Debutant Jamie Clapham's shot was deflected behind for a corner soon after before Laczko headed over from the resulting flag-kick.

McCormick bravery assisted him on 72 minutes when he got down well to smother Campbell's low cross with Howard in close proximity.

Alnwick kept City in the hunt moments later when his brilliant reaction one-handed save from Jermaine Easter flew behind for a corner.

Hume was booked for a foul on Connolly in the 78th minute before Lee Hodges replaced goalscorer Halmosi.

Rory Fallon replaced MacLean five minutes from time then City had appeals for a penalty turned down even though replays showed that the ball had actually struck a Plymouth arm in the area.

Fryatt replaced Clapham on 88 minutes as the hosts looked to salvage something from the game.

The striker almost made an immediate impact when his first touch required acrobatically tipping over the bar by McCormick.

McCormick saved well from McAuley in stoppage time then Laczko was booked for diving.

But Plymouth hung on for all three points.
