Leicester City set-up a third round clash with Aston Villa in this season's Carling Cup with a dramatic 3-2 victory over East Midlands rivals Nottingham Forest at The City Ground on Tuesday evening.
Two goals inside the final two minutes from substitute Richard Stearman and club captain Stephen Clemence ensured their side's progression.
After an act of sportsmanship from the Foxes, which allowed goalkeeper Paul Smith to open the scoring within a minute, the visitors responded through a trademark Alan Sheehan free-kick on 31 minutes.
But Nathan Tyson's second half effort looked to have won it for Forest.
However, the Foxes had other ideas and those two late strikes ensured Gary Megson enjoyed a happy return to his former stomping ground.
In a gesture of goodwill from the Foxes following events at The City Ground three weeks ago, the hosts went ahead inside 20 seconds.
From the kick-off, keeper Smith carried the ball unchallenged from the centre-circle, took it past his opposite number Marton Fulop and tapped it home into a vacant net for a surreal opener.
The goal received rapturous applause from both sets of supporters as the Foxes then re-started the match in earnest.
On 10 minutes, Patrick Kisnorbo's last ditch block thwarted Junior Agogo with the ball flying out for a corner.
Sheehan came to City's rescue in the 14th minute when he cleared off the line from Agogo, after he had outmuscled Joe Mattock, before Kris Commons drove his follow-up shot wide of the target.
At the other end, Smith saved comfortably from Mark de Vries two minutes later.
The visitors were forced into a change on 17 minutes when James Wesolowski left the field with a hamstring injury, James Chambers replacing him.
De Vries was denied by Smith moments later, after he had been slotted in by Sheehan on the left flank.
A timely tackle from Julian Bennett halted DJ Campbell's progress on 25 minutes after some neat footwork by Iain Hume.
But the visitors did draw level on 31 minutes thanks to a sublime Sheehan free-kick.
After Campbell had been felled on the edge of the area by Chris Cohen, the young Irishman stepped up and curled his set-piece over and around the wall and into the back of the net past Smith for the leveller.
Fulop denied Nathan Tyson in the 34th minute, when the Hungarian rushed off his line to meet the ball just ahead of the onrushing striker.
Tyson then headed over from Cohen's free-kick a minute later before Kisnorbo blocked former Fox Neil Lennon's attempted drive from 18-yards.
City remained level on 38 minutes when Fulop got down brilliantly to tip Luke Chambers' downward header from Cohen's corner around the post for another flag-kick.
James Chambers was booked for a foul on Luke Chambers in the 42nd minute before De Vries just failed to connect with Chambers' hanging cross.
And as a result it remained 1-1 at the interval.
City were first to show after half-time when Kisnorbo headed wide from Mattock's teasing cross from the right.
Smith saved with his feet to thwart Campbell on 47 minutes after good work by strike partner De Vries.
At the other end, Fulop gathered easily from Sammy Clingan's free-kick in the 51st minute.
Forest upped the anti and enjoyed a lengthy spell of possession but their opponents stood firm as the game reached the hour mark.
City made their second change on 62 minutes when Matty Fryatt replaced Campbell.
However, it was the home side who restored their advantage in the 64th minute through Tyson.
The striker latched on to Commons' long ball forward before firing the ball low past Fulop and into the net for his side's second of the night.
Richard Stearman replaced Bruno N'Gotty on 73 minutes as the Foxes pushed for another equaliser before Lennon made way for James Perch three minutes later.
Kisnorbo was cautioned nine minutes from time then Grant Holt came on for goalscorer Tyson on 85 minutes.
However, the Foxes equalised for a second time in the 88th minute when Stearman picked up the ball inside the area, turned and stabbed it home past Smith.
It got even better for Leicester in stoppage time when Clemence picked up De Vries' lay-off and curled the ball home past Smith's outstretched arm to spark the celebrations amongst the Blue Army.
