Matty's Fryatt's first goal of the season helped Leicester City cause a major upset in the third round of the Carling Cup at the expense of Aston Villa at Villa Park on Wednesday evening.
The striker's 75th minute strike in only his second start of the season helped Gary Megson's side topple their Premier League opponents and secure a passage into the fourth round.
In a game of very few clear cut chances, only Patrick Kisnorbo and goalscorer Fryatt came close for the visitors.
But at the other end, City's backline stood firm with club captain Stephen Clemence marshalling his troops superbly as the travelling contingent stayed behind to applaud their heroes.
The hosts were quick out of the blocks and the City defence had to be alert to block Stiliyan Petrov's long range effort inside two minutes.
Whilst at the other end, Fryatt just failed to latch on to captain Clemence's through ball.
Confusion in the Villa defence almost allowed Gareth McAuley to squeeze the ball home under pressure from Stuart Taylor on nine minutes before Fryatt saw his shot saved by the hosts' shotstopper a minute later, although the assistant referee had already raised his flag for offside.
On 13 minutes, Kisnorbo saw his header fly narrowly wide from Joe Mattock's inswinging corner.
It was then Iain Hume's turn to glance Mattock's free-kick wide from close range in the 15th minute.
The visitors continued to press and Olof Mellberg intercepted Hume's pass to strike partner Fryatt on 20 minutes as City looked to spring an early surprise.
James Chambers came to the Foxes rescue a minute later when he blocked Gabriel Agbonlahor's goalbound shot from 12-yards.
City had Marton Fulop to thank in the 24th minute when he brilliantly tipped Shaun Maloney's snap-shot from only yards out over the bar for a corner to keep the game goalless.
The Hungarian international then gathered Agbonlahor's looping header on 29 minutes but after a lull in play, it was the home side who upped the tempo five minutes before the break.
After good work by Mattock down the left, Radostin Kishishev saw his effort stopped by Petrov.
But the game remained goalless at the interval.
Fulop was again called into action at the start of the second half when he impressively palmed away Marlon Harewood's header from Gareth Barry's corner.
Taylor saved from Fryatt's deflected effort on 48 minutes before Kisnorbo headed behind Barry's teasing centre in the 58th minute.
DJ Campbell replaced Hume on 61 minutes then Kishishev made way for Alan Maybury in the 65th minute.
Fulop gathered Mellberg's cross on 70 minutes before Ashley Young replaced Isiah Osbourne moments later.
Clemence was booked for a foul on Nigel Reo-Coker in the 73rd minute but it was the visitors who took the lead two minutes later.
Campbell fed the advancing Fryatt and he composed himself before firing the ball low past Taylor at his near post for the opener much to the travelling Blue Army's delight.
Villa immediately made a change with Luke Moore replacing Harewood as they looked for an immediate reply.
The home side then made their third substitution as Patrik Berger came on for Curtis Davies on 79 minutes.
Goalscorer Fryatt left the field for Darren Kenton nine minutes from time then Fulop tipped Maloney's free-kick around the post for another corner as the home side piled on the pressure in the dying minutes.
Chambers cleared off the line from Agbonlahor on 88 minutes then Petrov put his effort over in stoppage time.
Villa continued to pour forward but the Foxes stood tall to record an impressive result.
