The 30-year-old playmaker became Ian Holloway's eighth signing when he arrived from Sheffield United on 28 February, 2008.
The former England international joined the Blades on a three-year deal at the start of the season after an impressive 14-year stint at Aston Villa.
Hendrie also enjoyed a successful loan spell at Stoke City during the 2006/07 season - where he played 28 games and scored on three occasions.
City boss Ian Holloway said: "Lee has a quality that Leicester City want in their ranks. He had a great season while on loan with Stoke last year and he is a player that can unlock a door for us. He will help the team.
Hendrie made his senior debut for the Villans in December 1995 and went on to have a glittering career at Villa Park. He was a big part of the England under 21 set up during his youth - receiving 19 caps at that level. He also has one full cap for his country to his name.
All in all Hendrie made an impressive 251 Premiership appearances for Villa, scoring 27 goals.
He joined Stoke City on loan in September 2006 and became an instant hit with the Potters fans. He was recalled to Villa for a brief period in January 2007, but joined up with Tony Pullis' men once again on transfer deadline day until the end of the season. Hendrie's contract with Villa ended that summer, and Sheffield United won the race to his signature in July.
The midfielder made his City debut in the 1-0 victory against Cardiff City at Ninian Park on 1 March, 2008.
