Signed on transfer deadline day at the end of August 2005, striker Iain Hume became the most expensive signing of then manager Craig Levein's reign.

The frontman was born in Edinburgh but plays his international football for Canada. He was bought as a direct replacement for David Connolly, who moved to Wigan the same day.

Hume put pen-to-paper on a three-year deal after leaving Tranmere Rovers where he made 176 appearances, scoring 37 goals since making his debut at the age of 16.

His best season for Tranmere was during the 2004/05 campaign where he finished top scorer with 16 goals.

The fee for Hume was an initial £500,000 but that could rise to £750,000. He progressed through the youth ranks at Tranmere and spent the last 18 months of his career at Prenton Park under the guidance of former City boss Brian Little.

Hume, who was linked with moves to Preston and Sheffield Wednesday prior to signing for Leicester, helped Tranmere claim the scalps of two Premiership clubs - Everton and Bolton - in recent FA Cup campaigns.

He scored the winner in a replay against Bolton at the Reebok Stadium as Tranmere went on to reach the quarter finals in 2004.

Hume finished the 2005/06 season as City's top scorer with nine league goals. He grabbed his first goal of the 2006-07 campaign in the 3-1 victory over Ipswich Town in August.

The player signed a new three-year contract with the Foxes in June 2007 - keeping him at the club until at least the end of the 2009-10 campaign.
